We Aspire to Inspire
AFRISOTA was established in response to a deeply personal and scholarly inquiry into Human Rights Violations Against Legal Immigrants in Minnesota. This research uncovered the systemic barriers and silencing that many African immigrants face, despite their legal status and vibrant contributions to society. AFRISOTA was born to change that reality. We are a community-rooted organization committed to amplifying African immigrant voices, confronting harmful narratives, and preserving our rich cultural heritage. Through storytelling, advocacy, healing, and leadership development, we strive to affirm the dignity and power of our communities.
At the heart of AFRISOTA is a vision of a Minnesota—and a nation—where African immigrants are seen, heard, and valued. We are guided by the values of Cultural Integrity, Community-Led Solutions, Ubuntu, Voice & Dignity, and Equity in Action. These principles shape our programs and partnerships as we build culturally safe spaces, elevate intergenerational knowledge, and promote systemic change. AFRISOTA is more than an organization—it is a movement to uplift, to preserve, and to lead with purpose and pride.
Thriving African immigrant communities where youth and families are safe, connected, and equipped to lead change.
To empower African immigrant communities in Minnesota through culturally grounded outreach, support services, storytelling, training, and advocacy.
We honor and preserve the diverse languages, histories, and traditions of African immigrants as powerful sources of resilience and pride.
We believe those closest to the challenges are closest to the solutions. Our programs are rooted in lived experience, collective wisdom, and shared leadership.
“I am because we are.” This African philosophy shapes our approach to wellness, healing, and solidarity, centering interconnectedness in all we do.
We amplify the authentic voices of our community through storytelling, advocacy, and cultural expression to affirm identity and challenge injustice.
We are committed to dismantling systemic barriers and co-creating equitable pathways in education, health, employment, and public life.
